I put my background in writing, teaching, and research to use for small businesses who struggle to be seen and heard, but don't have the time or knowledge to create content that will engage their customers.   • I'm sorry, who are you again?

    I'm Jae Holt, a freelance writer and a published author. I am a lover of books and coffee and enjoy a leisurely browse through the local office supply store. I am an educator who loves teaching high school as a substitute teacher. I live in the dampness of the Pacific Northwest with my husband, son, and three barn cats, but was raised on the sandy beaches of Hawaii.

  • As a graduate of the University of Washington with bachelor's degrees in both English and Communications, I've been exposed to various forms of writing. My preferred style of writing is fiction and narrative essays, but I've still maintained an interest in journalism and technical writing. I also have a master's degree in teaching, which leans heavily on using research and data to inform my teaching.

    My strength lies in my storytelling, and I use research and data to inform my writing when needed. In order to write compelling copy about your business, I need to get to know you. I have to research your goals, your industry, and your products or services in order to create the characters who will become the customers of your story. This makes your story unique to your business - your voice that sets you apart from the rest.

  • An excellent question that has multiple answers! The simplest answer is "It depends." But in general, it starts with an inquiry where you tell me what you want from your current copywriting that you aren't getting. Then I take a brief look at your copy and come up with a preliminary plan for addressing your needs. If you like the plan, I write up a contract for you to sign and I get right to work.

    The amount of time you spend on this project is the initial meeting, usually 30 minutes to an hour, a 20-minute follow-up to address any questions or concerns before I complete the initial draft, and however much time it takes to go over the draft, make revisions, and finalize the copy. Depending on the project, it could be a week-long timetable for simple projects up to a full year for more long-term goals.

  • That's not a problem at all! Multiple projects usually fall under long-term goals, such as wanting a unified look by making website copy similar to marketing materials or creating an email campaign with five sequential emails to generate sales. Depending on your needs, we can complete multiple projects separately or combine them into one large project.

  • Let me start by saying that the average range for copywriting services lies between $2,500 and $6,000 per individual project for comprehensive website copywriting for SEO (Search Engine Optimization) or content creation for sales and marketing materials. However, small businesses often have fewer resources than their larger counterparts. I understand this as a small-business owner myself. My commitment to you is to provide quality copywriting for a reasonable price that won't leave your bank account in the red.

    Once we've agreed on the project deliverables and timetable, it is customary to pay half of the contract up front and the rest at delivery. This is flexible, however, depending on your needs. You may pay me with a good old-fashioned check dropped in the mail or with a credit card through my Square online register.
